Kaydence: Fashion/Editorial Part 1
Hi all!
Thanks for sticking with me in my time of few shoots! I managed to wrangle my equipment away from my commercial gig to get some time in with a model here in Austin, TX for some fashion/editorial work. Now, obviously the clothing isn’t terribly Haute Couture, but the lighting principles could be used in any number of fashion or magazine editorial shoots. Kaydence was a treat to work with, and I hope to use her again soon.
For the first setup, I used an old shag carpet and hung it up about a foot behind the model. The key light was a 4 foot Octobox hung above and camera left of the model, pointed toward her and down. A beauty dished kicker supplied the nice rim light, giving some nice modeling to her form and providing a lot of separation from the backdrop. When I was setting that light, a lot of spill from it was getting on the carpe…er….backdrop…so I had to flag the light with a piece of black foam core. This way, only the octobox was lighting the backdrop. There is also a silver circular reflector filling in some of the shadows from the high main light.
I actually made a video of this shoot! There will be 3 parts to this series, but you can get a preview of things to come in the video.
Thanks for watching folks! I definitely welcome your feedback. Let me know what sorts of shoots you’d like to see and I’ll do my best to make it happen.
