On Wednesday’s shoot, we had Kaydence in front of a lovely shag carpet, lit from 2 sources with one reflector? Well what happens when we strip away everything but a blank wall and one diffuse light source?

In this setup, the only thing lighting Kaydence was one 4 foot octobox. She had no reflector to fill her shadows. This makes for a nice, contrasty, edgy look…great for pushing the fashion/editorial line. It’s not the most flattering light in the world, but with a little direction and a touch of contrast, you can get some very graphic, punchy looks with it.

Don’t be afraid to lose the reflector on occasion! Sometimes not seeing the model’s eyes or what not clearly can be a great mood setter. Experiment!
